“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

What is your idea of happiness and success?
My idea of happiness and success is being content with who you are and what you have. At the same time, you strive for and challenge yourself to be the best person you can be to make a positive impact on the people around you and the society.

What is your childhood dream?
My childhood dream was to become a professional dancer.

What is the most unique quality or greatest strength about you? How did it help you to become one of the finalists today?
The most unique quality about me is my perseverance and determination. When I set a goal for myself, I work very hard to achieve it even if I may fail. I am not afraid of failure as I believe it is part of success. This helped me become one of the finalists today. The audition process for the pageant was very nerve-wracking after seeing all the pretty talented girls. Because of my determination and courage, I told myself even if I fail, it is okay because at least I gave it a try. I think my ability to overcome failure and never give up on my dreams helped me.
Who is the most inspiring person in your life and how?
The most inspiring people in my life is my dad. I am inspired by him because he is one of the most hard-working people I know. And I see the qualities in him that made him successful. When he was young, he had a dream to immigrate to Canada. He worked hard to attain this goal. When he brought our family from China to Canada over 10 years ago, he was the only one who spoke fluent English at the time. I am inspired by how he dealt with every challenging situation we faced as immigrants when we first landed here. His success motivates me to become a better person and to work hard towards my own goals.

What makes you happy and what makes you sad?
It makes me happy when all my families and close friends are healthy and happy with where they are. It makes me sad when I see people struggle with their self-image or lack self-love.

What is the biggest mistake you have ever made in your life? What have you done to overcome it?
The biggest mistake I have ever made in my life was not loving myself enough and be content with who I am. I used to struggle a lot with my self-image such as weight, I developed eating problems that impacted my health. I have worked very hard to fight over that. I learned that we must first love ourselves in order for others to love us. Be confident with who you are and what you look like. You are created perfectly and there is nothing that should be changed.

If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?
If I could change one thing in the world it would be equalities in gender, race and ethnicity. As an Asian Canadian woman, I represent a minority group. Canada is a multicultural country and Canadians are very accepting of all cultures. However, I still hear and see a lot of times where inequalities could play a role in every day social and work life especially for new immigrants. A lot of times, it is still difficult for new immigrants with high degree/decent jobs in their own countries to get the same level of pay or treatment here. Varying standards do play a role, but I think bias also play a huge part in this. Therefore, if I could change one thing in this world, I would want there be no unfairness and everyone is treated the same no matter who they are.

What is the one change that you would like to bring in you?
The one change I would like to bring in me is to learn to focus more on “now” rather than worrying about the future or living in the past.

How social media has changed us? The good and the bad.
Social media has changed people’s life drastically. Social media helped people connect much quicker. For example, you can find your elementary school friends through social media easily and reconnect with them which is almost impossible to do before social media was introduced. It also made it easier for people to share with their friends about their lives. Social media also helps information spread incredibly fast. Breaking news and other important information can spread like wildfire on social media sites. The bad thing about social media is that people are becoming more and more addicted in using it and many times we see people sitting together all on their phone and not talking to each other. Too much social media causes us to not communicate with each other in person. Cyber bullying is also a growing problem. Many kids use social media and we see a lot of times where cyber bullying took their lives. People are publicly harassing each other and posting mean things or pictures that are “broadcasted” to the whole world.
