What is your motto?
If what you are doing is not bringing happiness and good-ness into the world, don’t do it.

What is your idea of happiness and success?
To leave the world a better place and to know that you have inspired, even a single person, to do the same.

What is your childhood dream?
As cliché as it is, I have always wanted to be a princess as a little girl. But my idea of a princess is someone who is kind, strong and intelligent. Someone who can bring about positive change to the people and the world around her. In some ways, I am still trying to chase that dream.

What is the most unique quality or greatest strength about you? How did it help you to become one of the finalists today?
I would say that my greatest strength would be my drive towards achieving goals that I set for myself. This has aided me in becoming one of the finalists for Miss Chinese Toronto Pageant as my drive towards achievement has allowed me to push myself, both mentally and physically, towards the highest level.
Who is the most inspiring person in your life and how?
The most inspiring person in my life is my mother. When my family moved to Canada from China 13 years ago, we didn’t have any savings at all. She went from a comfortable office manager job to doing manual labour. Even through some major health issues, she made sure that she provided enough for me to have a good education and a comfortable life. Now, 13 years later, she is a very successful business woman doing a job she loves. Every day, she inspires me to work through my troubles and she is the living proof that if you work hard and have a good heart, you can succeed in anything.

What makes you happy and what makes you sad?
Trying out new things make me happy. Every time I try something new, I discover new thing about myself. These new experiences are constantly challenging me and push me to be the best person I can be. What makes me sad is losing a social connection to someone who’s made a positive impact on my life.

What is the biggest mistake you have ever made in your life? What have you done to overcome it?
The biggest mistake I made was going into university without the right motivation. Although I was doing well, I didn’t find the passion I expected of myself from my work and I could not see the light at the end of the tunnel. I realized that I needed some time to find myself before making such a major commitment. I took time off to travel and to self reflect. At the end of my trips, I realized that the world is such a big place and I have every opportunity to achieve so I went back to complete my studies and now enjoy university more than ever.

If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?
If I could change just one thing in the world, I wish that everyone would have equal opportunity regardless of gender in every aspect of society. I feel that beauty and brains should not mutually exclusive, and that because if a person posse one, the other should not be sacrificed.

What is the one change that you would like to bring in you?
To shed away some of my self consciousness. I believe having some degree of self consciousness is good, but I have a bad habit of constantly second guessing my own decisions and sometimes the “what if” can be a mental burden.

How social media has changed us? The good and the bad.
The influence that social media has had upon our lives is complex. While social media like Facebook and Instagram are wonderful tools to keep in contact with any person regardless of distance, it also has the potential to restrict our personal expression by tempting us to only portray the ‘perfect’ side of our lives.
